Message An extruded tube and fin design will have less pressure drop. Heres is a clip from an article:

tube and fin intercoolers feature an internal tube that is engineered in such a way that the internal fins are extruded in one continuous piece. This unique design produces uniform and dimensionally accurate tubes, which contribute to a leak-free junction between the tube header and tube header plate. The internal design allows the air to move in very straight pattern, without the turbulence caused by bar and plate designs. This allows for greater flow (cfm) and less pressure drop.

In addition, the tubes are rounded on the ambient air side which contributes to smooth ambient side cooling air flow for additional efficiency. The smooth design causes the air to "hug" the intercooler fin, thereby increasing its cooling effiency.
